Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): pto clutch, mtd lawn tractor, switch level

Question
Micheal i have a White MTD lawn tractor 1998 I'm having trouble with the clutch staying engaged i have put 2 new pto switches on but that doesn't work I still have to hold the switch level up so the clutch will work the blades stay on as long as I hold the switch on ( They don't work if I let the switch level go in the neutral position ) I have ck the pto clutch with 2 wires and a battery jumper and the clutch works fine also have ck the safety switch on the padel clutch and it's ok any sugestions on what else I can do? or what is causing the pto clutch not to work without holding the switch ? Thanks

Answer
Hi Alan,

Check the seat safety switch if present.  Next, trace the wiring from the pto switch, to see if it goes through a solenoid.  If the clutch works when you jump it, it should stay engaged when the switch is on.

Let me know how you make out.
Michael
