Question -
I have a 1994 STS with 138K mi.  The transmission has never had problems in the past.  I can drive the car perfectly fine if it is in 3rd.  The problem starts when I shift into O/D or my speed is sufficient for the 4th gear to engage.  The engine will rev up like it is in neutral and then 2nd will engage.  At 65MPH this causes the RPM's to sit at nearly 5K.  Also the check engine light will come on and it will not go back into 3rd until I turn the car off and then back on.  This resets the check engine light and the ability to drive in 3rd.  The problem will not return until I shift into O/D again.  Needless to say, I quit using O/D.  This is the Northstar Engine and the electronic transmission.  I have also been experiencing the check engine light to come on at various times and the engine runs very rough.  This is very intermittent and has only occured when the car warms up.  It seems like the electronic choke is engaged and wont shut off.  Turning the car off and then on seems to reset it and after it cools down, the problem will go away for some time.  Maybe 1000 miles before it happens again.  Two seperate issues.
Thanks

Perform this test:

1. Ignition ON, Engine OFF.

2. Simultaneously push and hold the OFF and WARMER buttons for 3 seconds and release them.

3. Diagnostic CODES in the form of LETTERS and NUMBERS will start to appear.

4. write these down in the EXACT order in which they display until they STOP displaying and let me know what they are.

5. turn OFF ignition.
