Cadillac Repair: Mirror Control Switch, body putty, electric mirror

Question
Sir,
I have a 1994 Caddy STS.
I can use the electric mirror control on the driver's door armrest to move both door mirrors left, right and up, I am unable to move either mirror down.
I suspect that either a wire has come off or corroded at the mirror rocker control switch.
My question is how do I get access/remove/replace the contol switch from the door armrest without damaging the leather/vinyl?

Answer
Hi,Shaughan
Yes it sounds like it may be the p/mirror switch that has failed, but i wouldnt rule out a bad terminal connection at the switch, ive seen this before.
Removing the the switch is fairly easy, take a flat type tool,i use a plastic spredder the kind that you use to apply body putty, you can find that in the auto parts stores,i cut the plastic putty spredder in half,i then insert the spredder on the back side of the switch panel between the switch panel and the armrest leather, there is a retention clip on the back of the switch panel, use the spredder to push inward and while doing that lift up on the switch panel, you can use a small flat bladed screwdriver positioned on top of the spredder and lift up on the switch panel, keep and eye on the clip as the panel is lifted,it has a tendancy to catch the corner of the armrest leather, just push the clip in more and it should come out without any damage.if you need more help feel free to drop me a line. Thanks
