Cadillac Repair: ServiceEngineSoon/No dash lights,no A/C, cadillac dealership, oxygen sensor

Question
I haven't been charged anything so far except for buying the new battery at the auto parts store.  I have no money to take the car to the Cadillac dealership,($75/hr+$75 service fee) that's why I was writing to see if I could get a diagnosis from AllExperts and take that info to an alternate mechanic. Oh well, I guess me and the kids can get used to the bus and taxis!  ------------------------

The mechanic told me he wasn't able to locate the problem and installed a extra ground wire and said I could bring it back in Monday(08/01) if that didn't work.  The car was exactly the same when I picked it up(07/29) so I'm not so sure I want to take it back to him.  An employee at the Advance Auto store where I had a new battery installed told me that there is a something under the dash that should have been disconnected prior to the battery being installed but at the time he couldn't find it and said he would see if the Cadillac dealership would tell him where it was and if it was a loose wire, it could take hours to locate it.  Are there other options I could suggest to a mechanic to try out? I also noticed that even though I can hear the fan blowing, there is no air movement coming through the vents.

I own a '93 sedan deville and three days ago when I started it, I had no A/C but the fan was blowing, the clock and dash lights were either not showing or garbled and the ServiceEngineSoon light as well as some of the other diagnostic lights kept flicking on and off and now I have no dash lights except for the speedometer and mileage and the engine light is still on.  I had the oxygen sensor replaced 3 months ago that solved a low fuel milage problem and strong gasoline odor when I started it. I bought a new battery 3 days ago and a mechanic put in a "ground wire?" today(7/29/05), but those didn't change anything. I am scared to drive it now and was hoping I could give my mechanic an answer without having to take it to the Cadillac dealership.

Get this vehicle away from this guy as he has NO CLUE as to what he is doing.

Had you taken it into your local Cadllac dealer for this repair you would not have this problem now.

Now your going to spend more money trying to find someone who can perform some diagnsotics in order to locate your problem and you will have to pay this guy also and usually what happens is that this second guy will charge you another arm and a leg and most likely NOT be able to fix it and tell you that it mUST be a COMPUTER PROBLEM which is the infamous way of saying "I HAVE NO CLUE AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS", and then he tells you that you will have to take it to the Cadillac dealer as they have the special equipment to find the problem. Problem is that this guy also does not know what's wrong.

had you taken it into the Cadillac dealer in the FIRST place you would not be out all this money and eventually wind up at the Cadillac dealer anyway.

Take it to the dealer and get it fixed RIGHT.

Answer

I don't know of any wire that has to be disconnnected BEFORE you install a new battery and I have been working on Cadillac's since 1969.

Your just nOT giving me enough information so I can determine what could be going on.
