Answer -
You have one of 2 possibilities:
1. the fuel sender uin the fuel tank.
2. the instrument cluster.
Test procedure:
1. turn ON the ignition switch
2. locate the electrical connector at the fuel tank and disconnect it.
3. If the fuel gage goes to FULL, replace the fuel sender in the gas tank.
4. If it does NOT go to FULL your problem is in the instrument cluster.
NOTE: Do NOT leave the ignition ON for more than 30
seconds when the electrical connector is unplugged
at the fuel tank.
QUESTION: Has there been ANY work AT ALL performed on this vehicle ANYWHERE on the vehicle ?. yes a fuel tank last dec 04

AnswerOK, If the fuel tank was just replaced it is HIGHLY probable that either the electrical connector has a faulty internal connection or that the GROUND wire from the fuel tank to the body of the vehicle has broken off or is simply loose. Check ALL the wires at the fuel tank FIRST.
