1986 Cadillac Deville. Compressor not engaging.  Cleared codes, still no luck.  Pressure indicates coolant (R-13) level is good.  It was suggested that I replace the a/c cycle switch in the blower box and, also, replace the control panel module in the dash.  I am having no luck finding either of these parts, so I'm hoping you can tell me the problem lies elsewhere and I can stop searching and fix this thing. Thanks a bunch!

This vehicle does NOT use R13 freon. What are they and where are are getting your pressure readings from ?.

I had the a/c system retrofitted last summer, so I may be confused about the freon. A/C worked well last summer, but has not worked so far this season.  Last week I had the freon checked.  The mechanic hooked his guages to the red and blue connectors and said the pressure looked OK and he didn't need to add any freon.  The compressor never engaged.  I don't know if he was able to get a true reading or not.  He's not an a/c man, and there's not one close by.  Thanks for your advise.  Travis

Answer
On the side of the accumulator (receiver/drier) A large aluminum type cylinder that looks like a thermos bottle there is a 2 wire switch.

1. start the engine.

2. Turn ON the A/C system.

3. Disconnect the above said electrical connector and jumper the 2 wires together and the compressor should engage.

If it DOES, this indicates that the system is LOW on freon.
