Cadillac Repair: 94 Eldorado Brakes, auto zone, harbor freight

Question
I am changing rear brake pads on my eldorado and am having trouble getting the caliper to compress.  Is there a special tool I need ?  Usually a c clamp will push it back in but this doesn't work for these.

Answer
Hi Nathan, When you look at the piston you will see 2 notches at the edge oposite each other. What happens is there is a tool that engages those notches and then while turning clockwise and pushing in the piston will screw back into its bore. They make a cube that is used with a 3/8" ratchet and extension or the best/easiest way is a disc goes on the end of a large bolt with a plate and by inserting the notches into the piston and tightening the plate so it is just about touching the inside edge where the pad goes. Then turn the end of the bolt until the piston bottoms out and the notches will line up with the bumps on the back of the brake pad. Places like auto zone might have that as a loaner tool so you don't have to buy one although a store like harbor freight might sell it for $40 if you want to have one around. Hope that helps. Bill
