Cadillac Repair: Suspension System, shock absorber, car level

Question
1990 Cadillac Sedan De Ville..What is involved in shock absorber maint and/or replacement.
How is this related to the leveling adjustment sytem;generally how expensive is this to repair? I use the dealer @$75.00 an hour and GM parts.

Answer
Hi Laddie, There really isn't any maintenance on shocks or struts. If they are bad the car will float and the tires will get choppy. If fronts need replaceing a special spring compressor would be needed to compress the spring before the top nut can be removed. And front or rear an alignment should be done after replaceing the struts. The rears usually have the air bag built into the strut to control rear ride height and that helps keep the car level. As for expenses you will have to call around and see what the parts, labor and alignment come to because I don't have that info available to me. Bill
