Cadillac Repair: 99 Cadillac Deville - Aftermarket CD Player Installation, keyless entry system, wireing diagram

Question
Bill,

Just bought a used 1999 Cadillac Deville.  After the purchase I went out and had an aftermaket in-dash cd player installed.  Since this time the security system seems to act strange.  I've noticed that if the car is not started for some period of time, that the keyless entry system no longer works.  Therefore, you have to use the key and manually open the door.  As soon as you put the key in the ignition, the alarm starts to sound until you remove the key.  I have to put the key in the ignition and turn it a couple of times before the alarm will stop.  After you drive it around for a while the keyless entry system seems to return to normal.  Today I went out for lunch for about and hour and had the same thing happen.  The alarm stopped while I was driving it, but when I turned the car off, the alarm went off again.  I think that the security system might have actually ran through the factory stereo that was in the car.  Is this true?  Also, is there anyway to bypass this security setting so that I can keep the aftermarket cd player in the car?

Thanks,

Frank

Answer
Hi Frank, In my opinion alot of these stereo installers are a bunch of hacks and just get in there and start cutting wires without refurring to the propper wireing diagram to make sure they are useing the correct wires for the aftermarket install. Since the car had problems after the cd was installed then I would take it back there and explain that the electrical system is behaveing strangely after the install and you would like for them to recheck the wires they used to tap into and see why this is happening. You should not have to pay for this and if talking to a manager doesn't get this resolved then you will have 2 choices. Return the cd player and buy one at a place that knows how to install them without causing electrical problems. Or take it somewhere and pay to have a competant tech recheck all the wires and rework the ones that were innstalled incorrectly. There is no reason to disable anything to install an aftermarket cd/radio. Good luck. Bill
