Cadillac Repair: Heater Core, southern califonia, rubber hoses

Question
I have a 84 Fleetwood. The Heater Core leaks, can I bypass it? Would it affect climate control or anything else? How hard is it to replace. I'm in Southern Califonia, and a heater is not really necessary.
Also, my Delco cassette just clicks, is it repairable or should I replace it with an aftermarket C.D.?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Marty, This heater core is pretty easy to access. Working under the hood on the passenger side you will see the two rubber hoses. They can be removed and bypassed useing a flush T or if the hoses are 2 differant sizes then go to auto zone or other major parts store and you can get an adapter that is 5/8" on one end and 3/4" on the other. Bypassing will not allow heat into the car but the good thing is the a/c will cool alittle better because resigual heat won't get into the ductwork from the heater core. As for your cassette player I'm not sure there is a fix other than sending it in for repair. Aftermarket radios have a  much better quality of sound that it might be better to just replace it if you still listen to cassettes. If you have switched over to cds then you can still keep the stock radio and get a mulidisc player that mounts in the trunk or other convienent location and plays through the fm radio on station 87.3 or some other low station like that. Of course you could just update your whole system if you wanted. You are only limited by your budget and what type of music that you like to listen to. Have fun shopping. Bill
