Chevrolet Repair: My car bill that will leave me homeless!!, chev impala, power steering fluid

Question
Hello, I am so excited about this site. I just learned of it and have already been help so much. You people do a great service. I was hoping to ask you a question about my Car. Or maybe not a question but help me familiarize myself with my own if you could. Let me tell you first of myself. I'm a college student. I own a 2005 Chev. Impala. I have a powersteering leak in a pump that has leaked on my belt which has sent powersteering fluid flying in my engine everywhere for about a month now. I really struggle with money and took the 5 dollar route and bought the leak stop Powersteering fluid. Didn't work. The fluid has got into my radiator coils. I think because the mechanic is saying that I need a new belt because of the oil damage which I agree with, a new pump which I agree with, a tension spring that holds my belt in place because my belt slipped off and the battery died so I also agree with this, but he says I need a new radiator. I think thats what its called because he said it shorted out. I am at the mercey of this mechanic, how can I find out if my radiator shorted out and that I do infact need a new one. Is there a sound or should the car not turn over. I am really fuzzy on these issues and might have terms mixed up but I really need some advice and would really apprieciate it. I can anwser any questions if you are confused because I know this is random. I hope I didn't confuse you because I feel like a 3 grader trying to explain physics. I'm just not the expert here. Thank you

Answer
Hey Charlie.

You probably do need a power steering pump and I imagine the belt is destroyed too but there is no way in the world that the radiator is going to be damaged from power steering fluid.  Other than a low coolant sensor there is nothing electronic in the radiator and most certainly nothing that woudl get damaged.
There could be the possibility there is something else wrong with the radiator but I can't understand what you mean by a short in the radiator.  Is the vehicle overheating or running incorrectly?
