Chevrolet Repair: 1985 chevy blazer S-10 tmanual transmission, chevy blazer, clutch fork

Question
Dear Sir,
Three days ago, i was driving on tha freeway, and all o a sudden when I tried to shift gears, the clutch pedal went all the way down and I couldn't shift into any gear.  With the inpulse of the moving car on the fifth gear, I did manage to get out of the freeway and into a place to park.
When I tried again, the pedal was all loose and woould not respond. Since  the clutch would not respond, I had to have the Blazer twed away.
What can be wrong? Could it be due to more than one reason?
I really appreciate your help.

Answer
Hey,

First thing first is to see if the clutch fork that goes into the transmission on the drivers side is moving.  Go under the vehicle and look into the side of the transmission while someone pushes in the clutch (make sure to have the emergency brake and brakes on with vehicle chocked so you don't get run over if it rolls)
