Chevrolet Repair: water pump replacement chev suburban, water pump replacement, clutch fan

Question
I removed fan shroud, battery, belt, and  bolts holding the pulley on the water pump but fan is still attached to water pump. Does the shaft nut between the fan and water pump have to be unscrewed to get fan off water pump?

Answer
Hey,

The nut is attached to the clutch fan and turns off of the threaded shaft on the pump.  It can be very difficult to remove without the special wrench and holder.  Before I bought the equipment I was able to remove them by installing the belt to help hold the pulley and putting a large prybar between the heads of the pulley bolts to help hold it more.  Do not use heat on the fan clutch or you will wreck it.  You should hit it with a lubricant and let is soak for a while.  Once it busts free it will spin off by hand as it is a very fine thread.
