Chevrolet Repair: 2002 chevrolet venture, intake manifold gasket, chevrolet venture

I was told by a dealer that the intake manifold gasket
needs replacing.The 2002 venture has 52,000 miles.the dealer said repair is 600.00-800.00 dollars.Can't afford to
do it now.my question is by not doing it now can it cause more problems?

Intake gasket Hey,

  If the intake gasket is leaking externally it is only a matter of time before it is leaking internally.  Should coolant intrude the oiling system given enough time it will cause permanent damage to bearings and lubricated components.  A leaking intake gasket should be done asap.  The severity of the leak is sometimes proportional to the work load of the shop in question.  They pay great and can be done in half the book time so alot of guys are recommending them prematurely.  I have attached photo's of one I did last week to give you an idea what happens to the gasket and why it is so expensive to do.
