Chevrolet Repair: 1997 Astro van makes loud grinding noise, astro van, starter switch

Question
I hear a LOUD grinding noise when car is running and I place shift selector into either neutral or park. I suspect either a relay, starter switch or wire chaffed.
especially  the starter switch as if the selector (trans) is in park or neutral and the key just barely turned the engine starts.

Hey,

 Do you know where the noise is coming from?  When a vehicle is put into gear the motor mounts shift a bit and the exhaust moves a small amount.  If the noise is coming from underneath inspect all of the clamps and hangars on the exhaust.  It difficult to diagnose noises without hearing them and a grinding to you may be a crunching to me...
