Chevrolet Repair: 93 chevy pickup 350 v8 engine wont stay running., air control valve, chevy pickup

Question
ok heres my problem. if i get the truck started it will idle for a little while anywhere form 20 seconds to 3 minuets if i don't give it gas. if i do and keep the gas steady it wont die. but if i let go it just dies. doesn't show any sine of it going to die. theres no putting or anything it dies like it would if i turned the key off. so i went and bought a fuel filter nothing bought a new coil nothing same thing happened. i took off the distributor cap and cleaned all the prongs and stuff and still nothing. can you give me a list of things to check. the fuel pump runs normal to. and the fuse isnt broken. all my fuses are good. my dad thinks its something with the fireing mechanism. but i dont know can you please help me.

Answer
Hey,

It sounds like a problem with the IAC (idle air control)valve.  This valve is responsible for extending and retracting depending on target idel speed the computer wants to see.  I would recommend removing and cleaning it.  Scan data for trouble codes and check to see if it needs replacing.
