Chevrolet Repair: windshield wipers wont run, windshield wipers, plastic caps

What do I need to check to get my wipers to run on my 2004 Impala?  They were froze down when I turned them on and now I can hear the wiper motor run but the wipers won't run? Is there a reset button or safety switch or anything to check?

Hey Joyce

 Pop the hood and look at the base of the wiper arm where it sweeps on the pivots.  There are plastic caps that pop off and expose two 15mm nuts.  These nuts will loosen off and cause the spline on the wiper transmission pivot to slip.  If they are loose make sure you let the wipers park before you tighten them or they will be all over the place.
