Chevrolet Repair: 4.3 v6 timing, blazer, number 1

Question
My problem is I have no way to locate 0 on the balancer it has 2 lines that are not  0 so please don't tell me to line up the mark for zero. I can find compression on number 1 cylinder, But not top dead center .There are no marks for zero on the balancer. I got close and started the blazer but the check engine light comes on. Do you know how to find top dead center on this engine without pulling the head. The plugs comes in from the side of the head and my gage will not work on this engine.
