Chevrolet Repair: my car dies cause the idle is way to low, chevy nova, good luck

Question
ok so I'm not familiar with the whole engine thing...I brought it out to my dads house to have a few things fixed on it and he noticed that it was idling way to fast so he slowed the idle down. So now my 1987 chevy nova dies pretty much every time it comes to a stop. Or I park it before I can even get it turned off. If you could help that would be great. Thank you for your time

Answer
Hi Melissa,

I think the idle is too low.  You could also probably stand a tune up (complete with timing adjustment).  If your dad doesn't do that, make sure the shop you go to does a complete job.  They will try to get away with just doing plugs.  Don't let them talk you into wires.  You can do that yourself for much less.

Also run some gas treatment through the tank.

Good Luck.
