Chevrolet Repair: fuel problem 2000 Chevy Suburban 1500, fuel level sensor, chevy suburban

Question
My fuel gauge reads empty when I start the engine, and then slowly rises to the appropiate level. This did not concern me until my truck died on me several times. There is no indication of any problem as far as the computer is reading. What is causing this?

Answer
Hi Fred, this sounds like the fuel level sensor is bad. This part reads the fuel level and sends a signal to the PCM, then the PCM sends a signal to the cluster to the fuel gauge. I have replaced a number of these, you need to remove the tank and then the pump to replace the part.

Hope this helps
