Chevrolet Repair: 1989 chevy cavalier z24, torque converter clutch, torque converter clutch solenoid

my 89 z24 has a 2.8 6cyl engine. it starts fine always.but 65% of the time it idles roughly.and has some problems when stepping on the gas. it usually works its way out quickly and works fine until i come to a stop. it idles roughly again and almost dies on me sometimes. i have checked the plugs/wire/and vacuum leaks. all are fine. sometimes i can smell gas when entering and exiting my car. i only get 12 miles to the gallon. PLEASE HELP ME

check the tcc.. Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid
next check your o2 sensor,map sensors, etc... as for your gas smell.... i dunno about that. check for fuel leakage or there might be unburned fuel going out the exhaust system due to the rough running.

systematically check your engine out.
