Chevrolet Repair: power steering problems, power steering problems, power steering pump

Question
hello, i'm having problems with my power steering on a 89 chevy cheyenne c-1500 V-6 4.3L. i was driving down the road and it just went out on me. since then i have changed the power steering pump on it.but still having to strong arm it. it's been 2 days and there's been no change. today i jacked the front end up and turned it in both directions several times from what i hear to bleed any sir out.but there is still no change. could my problem be worse then i thought or is there a chance that i have more air in it then i thought if so how can i bleed it out or what could be the problem cause it hasn't giving me any problem until now and like i said it just went out on me while i was driving it down the road any help would be much appreciated thank you. also there were 2 different sizes of O rings and only used one on the hoses i couldn't find out where the other one went or if i even needed it.i'm thinking it was just an extra one i don't know.it's a bigger O ring but any help to my problem would be greatful thank you.

Answer
ok, first, the different o ring is probably for a different size hose on another model that uses that pump. now, the pump. what i would do is start the truck, and take the cap off the pump. if its moving fluid, youll see it, and if its not, youll see that too. if it is, you just might have more air in there, or your gearbox is binding up. if its not, you might have a restricted line. that will cause loss of power steering. only way to find that out, is to pull the lines off and put air thru them. at any rate, eliminate all parts one by one, and you have to get to the bottom of it. good luck.
