Chevrolet Repair: 1999 suburban fuel pump installation, retaining ring, o ring

howdy- replacing fuel pump on 1999 suburban k1500.  Tanks down- old pump gone- putting in new pump.  But it doesn't want to seat low enough into new o-ring so that I can install retaining ring.

I don't want to force the plastic anymore.  Is there a trick ?

Hi Jim, make sure that the sending unit is lined up. make sure you can push the pump all the way down, if you can't then check to see what is holding it from going down. With out seeing this one it's hard because I have never heard of this before. Sorry I can't help more.
