Chevrolet Repair: 98 Chevy Blazer 4X4 wont start, chevy blazer, small fortune

Question
My husband drives the above truck for work. (150k miles)  Yesterday, he went to a job (he's a cable guy), an hour later when he went to leave, the Blazer wouldn't start.

Went out there today to see if it fixed itself..nope.  Turn the key and it sounds like it wants to start, but won't turn over.  When he stops cranking, a series of clicks can be heard under the hood.

Tried jumping...no such luck.  We had it towed to a mom and pop shop located in the area it broke down in.

My questions to you are...
1.What do you think the problem(s) could be?
2. What would be average for this to be fixed.  I usually take our vehicles to Firestone for repairs (I know the guys and have lots of trust built up over the years), but the towing would have cost a small fortune.  I would like to know a ballpark figure so that we don't get hosed with them inflating the costs outrageously.

Thanks so very much.

Answer
dont worry about the clicking, most likely normal. now, i cant tell you what is wrong, but i can tell you where to start. you will have to have your fuel pressure checked. with these vehicles, the pump is normally the problem. cost, about $300-$400 plus labor. now, the other place to check. you need to try starting it again, not a lot, but for say, 5 seconds or so. now put your head under the engine, near the middle of the motor, and sniff. smell gas? if so, you got a bad injector unit. cost, $500.00 plus labor. if both are good, then you need to check for spark, and air flow. prices vary at that point. good luck.
