Land Rover Repair: Steering column noise, coloumn, steering box

Hi John, just been reading your page. Do you ever sleep at nights? Here's a slight nuisance from my 1997 300tdi discovery. Every time I turn the steering wheel left I get a regular slight groaning noise coming from the steering coloumn but when I turn it to the right no sound at all. I'm one of those who can't leave it alone until I know whats causing it. Can you advise?

Sometimes you get noise from inside the column, from plastic rubbing ot the bushings, and it can be time consuming to fix.

I have also see moaning noises from the steering box get transmitted up the column into the car

I have never found either to be a hazard, just an annoyance
