Chevrolet Repair: No start after rain, spray water, spray bottle

Question
I have 1998Chevy4x4/4.3pick up truck Starts fine when weather is good, will not start if we had rain that nite- after about 3-4hrs. of trying the next day it will start then backfire through the exhaust.Takes half the day to get running.Replaced dist.cap, coil, fuel pump, any advice? Thanks

Answer
Hi Mort,

You need to first consider the cap, rotor and WIRES when this happens.  If this still happens after all of that, look at the coil (or coil pack).  Then consider the fuel filter, just for good measure and to rule it out.  Possibly the ignition module.

On a day it runs good, take a spray bottle and spray water all around under the hood.  Eventually, you may cause the car to stall or stumble.  You may have to get things pretty wet.  Stay away from computer components, and things that look as if they should not get wet.

Hope this helps.
