Chevrolet Repair: Lumina radio, gm radios, s10 blazer

Question
I replaced the factory radio in my '92 Lumina car with one from a '96 S10 Blazer yesterday. Today my battery is dead after being parked in the garage all day. Is the wire harness different between those two vehicles?

Answer
Hi Rich,

Though these GM radios sometimes have different options, the wiring of them is generally the same.  You have 3 plugs, a blue, a black, and a white.  The one with the least amount of wires is the power plug.  The other two are for speakers.  You cannot plug a wrong one into the wrong hole.

How well do you know this Blazer radio?  It may have an internal issue that drains the battery.  If you know that is not the case, Pull the 'radio' fuse and see if the battery goes down over night.  If not, you know the power is still geting to the radio with key off and the fuse installed.  If the radio still kills the battery with the 'radio' fuse pulled, the 'memory' power may be the culprit.   Pull that fuse and see what happens.

I hope this helps.
