Chevrolet Repair: 2003 Chevy Suburban brake warning light., chevy suburban, brake fluid

Question
Hi

Today while driving, the brake warning light and audible chime went off inside the car. I thought that perhaps I had not released the parking brake completely but I had. I could not get the chime to stop or the light to go away until I turned off the car. Once I restarted it, it was fine until I started moving again. Later I realized that each time I hit somewhat of a bump, the light either went away or came back. It happened several times in my drive home so I know whatever it is, it is being jarred by certain bumps in the road.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

Regards.

Answer
Hi

Check the brake fluid level in your master cylinder, they have a sensor to detect low brake fluid and it will trigger the light, going over bumps and such can cause the fluid to slosh around in the master and trigger the light. it is normal for the fluid to drop low as the pads wear down but if it look excessivly low have the system checked for a possible leak although I doubt this will be the case. if you find it to be low just top it off with the correct brake fluid and this should solve the problem. one other thing to check would be the sensor itself, make sure the wire going to it is in good shape and not broken, hope this helps
