Chevrolet Repair: what 350 is better, grade fuel, premium fuel

Question
You answered a queston for me yesterday about a 350 motor in my 1972 Suburban. Now that I know I need one what is your opinion on the different types of 350's GM offers- the 220 hp, the 290hp or the 350 hp. What is the best value for the money and what will best serve us? I don't know what is currently in there but it has a lot of power, and we don''t really want a big heavy underpowered pig.I don't think we can afford a 383 stroker, nor do I know if it has any advantages for this application. We do some mountain driving, don't have any plans to tow, but you never know,(1/2 ton chassis).  Also, if we go with the 350/350 do we need to use premium fuel? Thank you for your earlier answer, it helped out tremendously.

Answer
Hi Tony, If your going to put in a new engine why not get all you can. I would go for the 350/350. Fuel for this engine? not sure. I'm sure that if the engine has 10 to 1 compression you will needto use a higher grade fuel. You what power, you buy good fuel!! Gas doesn't cost that much more. Power is where it's at these days.

Have a Great Day
