Chevrolet Repair: Boiling out battery, chev 350, tight connection


Question
I have 1993 chev 350 van air,auto tran.
I have replaced the alernater and still the battery over flowes.is there another regulater other than one in the alernater? The gauge in side thoese fill charge 18 volts all the time.
I get a new battery two time a year.

Hi Rick,
I doubt the alternator/regulator, or the battery is your problem.
I believe you have a bad wire connection somewhere, and the regulator is not getting the proper reading from the battery. Very possibly the ignition switch, or one of the wire connections through the firewall.
A missing ground from the engine to the firewall could also be the cause. Check the wire from the rear intake manifold bolt on the right head, and make sure it is well connected to a clean tight connection on the firewall.
