Chevrolet Repair: 1997 Tahoe and fuel pump?, torque converter clutch, spark plug wires

Question
I've noticed after my 129k 1997 4WD Chevy Tahoe has warmed up, sometimes it will shift hard from first into second gear from a stoplight. Upon coming on on the stoplight, it shifts down normally, this is only when I begin to accelerate from first to second. This does not happen all the time and only when the vehicle is really warm.
Also, as I was backing out of a parking space the other day, the vehicle totally died when I put it into drive. I tried a few more times immediately thereafter to restart and it would not even turn over.  I sat there for a few moments then all of a sudden all power came back and it started for me and let me put it in drive and drive away normally.
Could these 2 things have anything to do w/ each other? Possibly in need of a new fuel pump?
I've recently replaced the fuel filter and spark plug wires(not yet plugs).
Thanks for your advice!

Answer
Hi Regan,
Of all the symptoms you list, fuel pump is not even on my list. i wonder why you asked...possibly because someone you know had a problem with their truck, and it was the fuel pump.
Your shifting may be due to low transmission fluid...check it.
The dying, and not cranking deal, sounds like possibly a loose battery connection, or something along that line. A fuel pump problem wouldn't keep it from cranking over.

There is a possibility of the two problems being related through the transmission.
if the torque converter clutch solenoid was having a problem and sticking, it could possibly do both of those symptoms, but you need to ask a transmission specialist that question.

But I sincerely doubt the fuel system is involved.

Good luck,
Van
