Steering Column Repair: replace ignition housing, chevy blazer, 2000 chevy blazer

Question
Hi,
I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer..I had a key stuck and was forced to drill out the key tumbler.. This damaged the housing slightly...I replaced the tumbler and got a new key and it worked...This weekend I replaced the housing with a used steering column and put my key and tumbler in and now it starts and runs for 2 seconds and shuts itself off...Is there a problem with changing the housing and the vehicles theft system? What should I try next?

Answer
Hi Barry:

You have been locked out by the Passlock system.  Once you changed the case, the sensor and chip inside the case do not know what vehicle it's in.  It needs to relearn the security system.  Here's how to do it without a scan tool.  It takes 3o minutes and patience to do it right

30 Minute Learn Procedure
Tools Required: None
1.   Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2.   Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
3.   Observe the SECURITY telltale, it should be flashing.  After exactly 10 minutes the telltale will turn ON for 15 seconds then OFF.
4.   Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds.

5.   Then repeat steps 1 through 4, 2 more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes.

The last step of turning the ignition off and waiting 5 seconds is critical to the procedure.  Make sure you turn the ignition off before attempting to crank it (otherwise you can start the 30 minute procedure all over again)
The vehicle is now ready to start.
6.   Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.

If you want to see it on the we, we have recently loaded a relearn pare to our website.
