Chevrolet Repair: Cavalier valve noise, chevy cavalier, push rods

Question
I have a 1996 Chevy Cavalier that has 130,000 miles on it.  The valves are really starting to make noise. When I change the oil, they seem to quiet down a little.  Can they be adjusted?

Answer
NO, They are hydraulc lifters and are NOT adjustable. You can try using a heavier oil such as 20/40.

However, Your most likely cause is that the rocker arms, push rods and lifters are just plain worn out and require replacement. In some cases the oil builds up a heavy residue that can be cleaned using different cleaning agents, Check with a local repair facility.
