Chevrolet Repair: 2000 chevy silverado k1500 ext cab 4wd, upper control arm, oversized tires

Question
I am so glad to have found you.  My 2000 silverado has begun to make a really loud noise that resembles a rubber on rubber grinding whenever I make a left turn.  It has gotten louder and louder over the past 6 months.  There is no noise turning right. My mechanic has looked at it.  He cannot seem to find an absolute solution.  There seem to be be many possiblities.  I hear the noise very loudly inside and can feel the resistence in the wheel as I turn.  You can hear the noise under the hood, but it does not seem to be so pronounced.  Please help me.  It makes me want to sell the truck it's so bad.

Answer
Hi Bev,
Look under there at the plastic flaps that line the inside of the fenders, and the flaps that cover the upper control arm.

Pull some of those flaps up and look at the other side of them, which is where they may be rubbing tires.
If you have oversized tires, they can rub the frame.

If you have a lowering kit installed, I have seen the WHEEL, not the tire, rub the lower control arm during a sharp turn. You really don't want that.

I assume you have checked the brakes and nothing there rubbing?

On a K 4X4 truck, there are rubber boots on the front axle shafts. During turns, the pleats of those boots expand on one side, like the back side, and contract on the other side, causing the pleats to rub together. You can see little buff marks at the edge of the pleats. See if that might be it.
