Chevrolet Repair: 97 suburban trailer lights, maximum amperage, light fuse

Question
my 1997 chev suburban 4x4 blows the brake light fuse in the dash when the trailer lights are plugged into a trailer.  any trailer.  won't blow immediately.  i always test it when i first hook up, then it is always blown by the time i reach my destination.  i do not see any apparent shorts past the t split in the rear.  there is an electric brake on the truck, as well, but i do not use it.  any suggestions on diagnosing or anything else?  thanks.

Answer
Is this trailer wiring hookup an original factory installation or is it an add-on that someone installed ?.

Without actually SEEING thi setup the only suggestion is that there may be some corrosion within the plug, an intermittent ground or an intermittent short within the plug.

Are you absolutely POSITIVE that the plug is wired correctly ?.

Recheck the wiring that goes to the plug for any signs of rubbed off insulation and or corrosion within the connectors or the harness.

It is also possible that IF the trailers have ELECTRIC BRAKES it is exceeding the maximum amperage beyond the limit of the fuse.

Hook up the trailer and have someone wiggle all the connectors while holding the brake pedal on.

Without testing and seeing the setup you have an accurate diagnosis is quite impossible.
