Chevrolet Repair: 2002 Blazer, free with money, nasty job

Question
I had my 2002 Blazer in for front brake replacement(58000). The dealer said I also had cracks in the serpentine belt (true), the origional fuel filter (true), and the transmission should be serviced.  This estimate was app. $300, being less the free with money (cheap)  I declined.  I looked at the belt and it doesn"t seem difficult to change, it looks like I just put pressure on the tensioner to get slack in the belt, remove the old belt and put on a new one. Is it that easy or is there any thing special that needs the be done?  Is there anything special about changing the fuel filter?  Is the anything special about changing the transmission fluid and filter?  I changed the fluid and filter on Dodge transmissions, and other than being messy it was not 2 difficult.

Answer
Hello Joe, You can replace the belt as you said it's no big deal. The fuel filter is a nasty job, unless you like gas running down your arms. I would never change one at home on my back. I would call a place like firestone or goodyear and ask them how much to change it. AS for the trans fluid, the pan doesn't just come off this one. You either have to remove the cross member or pry the exhaust down on these. I'm sure which without seeing it. If the fluid looks GOOD leave it alone!!!

Hope this helps
