Question
I havent replaced a starter since auto class high school. I have a 98' chev pick up with a 4.3L V6 with starter problems. yesterday truck wouldnt start with a boost, after tapping the starter with a hammer it started fine all day . Today truck wouldnt start again ,tapping did not work today. It has been min 10 deg celcious at night . do you think the starter needs replacing and if so anything i should be aware of when doing so. from what i rember theres a couple bolts a couple wires

Answer
You still have it correct bolts and wires. The ONLY exception is the price of the stsrter is HIGHER.

When you purchase a new starter make SURE that they TEST IT FIRST BEFORE you leave the auto parts store. Just because it's new does NOT guarantee that it WORKS.

Also take your battery out of the vehicle and hand carry it into the auto parts store and they will test it for FREE.
