Chevrolet Repair: chevy lumina, 1998 chevy lumina, radiator cooling fan

Question
My car keeps getting hot and then cooling down I had a thermastat put in it and they said it had an air pocket. how do I get the air out. It is a 1998 chevy lumina

Answer
First OFF I don't buy the AIR POCKET theory.

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made, Look around in the area where work was performed.

Is the radiator cooling fan turning ON and OFF as it normally should ?.

WHAT was done to the vehicle to cause this aledged AIR POCKET theory ?.

IF and I say IF there is an air pocket, It can be easily removed via leaving the radiator cap OFF and running the engine at a high idle for several minutes and you will see anti-freeze being purged out of the thermostat opening while maintaining this high idle speed. Maintain the high idle speed and being EXTREMLY CAREFUL as not to get SPLASHED AND BURNED by HOT ANTI-FREEZE keep adding anti-freeze to the radiator until it stops purging it out.

Most causes of this type of problem are caused by:

1. a leak in one or both head gaskets where combustion chamber pressure is being emitted into the coolant passages in the engine and or an intake manifold leak.

2. A fauklty thermostat. Even a NEW one can be faulty.

3. A corroded and restricted radiator at the middle and lower chambers of the radiator where you cannot physically see the coolant flowing thru the tubes.

4. A faulty incorrectly operating radiator coolant fan.
