Chevrolet Repair: 2002 Impala Starting Problem, routine oil changes, chevrolet impala

Question
I have a 2002 Chevrolet Impala and 3 times in the last 4 months when I try to start the car it will not turn over.  It is not the battery.  This morning I tried to start the car and it would not turn over.  I tried several times but nothing, after about 30 minutes I tried it again and it started fine.  This has happened 4 times now.  Every once in a while, while driving, the security light comes on, sometimes it goes off in a few minutes and sometimes it stays on until you turn the car off.  I have never had to have any repairs to this car, only routine oil changes. Can you give me any ideas as to the problem?
Thank you in advance.

Answer
By what methods did you use to determine that it IS NOT THE BATTERY ?.

A battery can have an internal intermittent fault of which you can't physically see from the outside.

It could have a bad cell(s).

You could have a fault in either battery cable.

you could have a fault in the starter or in the electrical portion of the starting system.

The incident with the security light will cause the vehicles engine not to turn over as it is part of the anti-theft system that prevents starting of the engine.

What mechanical work or ANY kind of work has been performed on the vehicle recently ?. As most problems that occur after a recent repair was made can be traced back to the area of where the repair was made as a vacuum line may have been knocked loose or a wire connection came loose, Look around in the area where work was performed.

There are endless possibilities of what component could be intermittently faulty in the security system and this is going to take some professional HANDS ON expertise to perform the numerous testing procedures in order to find what component(s) and or wiring problem exists that is causing this problem.

There just is NO ONE cause. IF your vehicle has the small imbedded CHIP in the ignition key these have been known to fail quite often and your dealer has the equipment to test the key.
