Chevrolet Repair: 99 2.2l cavalier, chev cavalier, test light

Question
Have a 99 chev cavalier 2.2L,When I turn the key the to start the car the starter will not energize, not even a click.I can however use a jumper on the starter and the  car starts but shuts off after a few seconds. any clues ?

Answer
Hi Brian... sounds like you have a problem in the wireing for the start circut. check the connections, clean the ones that are bad. also put test light on the small wire at the solonid and turn the key, it should light up... if it doesn't check for an open in the circut, if it does change the solonid on the starter. hope this helps
