Chevrolet Repair: rattle, sway bar bushings, step vans

Question
Hi;
  I have a question which i cant find the answer to regarding a rattling noise in a '88 chevy s-10 2 w.d. front suspension. When i drive over a bumpy road at around 20 mph i hear a metallic rattle coming from the left front wheel just like the old chevy step vans and those beaten on cabs.The ball joints have no play,the sway bar bushings are o.k.,no play in the wheel,when i bounce on the bumper no noise,when i tug on the wheel like a seizure experiencing driver, no noise or loosnesness.What is making that annoying rattle?
              Thanks

Answer
Hi Tom, Make sure that the control arm mounting bolts are tight. If they are then try this, open the hood and put a rag large enough to make the hood close a little hard at the left hinge. I want this rag to lift up on the hood and make the hinge pivot tight. I have seen a lot of these hinge bolts make noise. If this stops the noise remove the hinge bolt and install a plastic washer made from a milk jug. Also make sure it's not the door hinge pins. If these get loose they will make noise. Try opening the door to see if the noise stops.

Hope this helps      Mark
