Chevrolet Repair: 2000 Impala Windshield Wiper Reset, crank arm, windshield wiper

Question
Hi,

We have a 2001 Chevy Impala and are experiencing problems with the "tuck under" feature for the wipers. As you know, the wipers are supposed to tuck under the hood line when they are turned off. Recently a snow/ice storm clogged the under-hood position and when the wipers attemped to tuck under, they were stopped by the ice.

Now, they continue to operate correctly when on, but when turned off, they will not tuck under the hood, but rather, they back up to a position where they are both straight up. Needless to say, this is quite annoying for normal driving. I tried to discover if this is some sort of safe mode, and if there is some sort of reset, but so far I have no info.
I have been told that it could be the control module, but it seems like more of a mode problem since they work fine otherwise. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Larry, What has happened is either the crank arm for the wipers is broken or the stop for the crank arm is BENT. I would go with BENT first. I would take this into the dealer for repair. If the stop is just bent your looking at maybe $50 to repair. The crank arm is around $60 for the part.

Hope this helps
