Chevrolet Repair: Cant Accelerate, chevy blazer, loose piece

Question
I have a 1994 Chevy Blazer with over 180,000 miles on it.  When starting the car the idle will go up and down and the battery meter goes up and down also  for about 5 seconds then everything smooths out.  I can drive the car fine until I have to come to a complete stop (red light).  When the light goes green I hit the gas and I can't accelerate past like 5mph and when I hit the gas even more it just makes loud popping sounds.  So I pull over turn off the car and restart it and then I can accelerate fine again until I come to a stop.  This just recently started happening one day and has been getting worse everyday.  Any ideas?  Would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Answer
The possibilities are endless of could be's.

1. Fuel pump intremittent problem.

2. Intermittent ignition fault.

3. Foreign debris in the fuel tank being sucked up onto the fuel filter in the fuel tank thus restricting fuel flow. Once you stop the engine and the fuel pump stops the debris falls off the filter screen in the fuel tank and then gradually starts being sucked back up onto the screen and the cycle keeps repeating itself. You might be LUCKY and only have a water problem in the fuel tank of which 2 cans of DRY GAS may resolve your problem.

4. Could be a  loose piece of internal catalytic converter pieces that have come loose internally and restrict the exhaust flow in the same manner as the fuel problem as said above.

Or numerous other possibilities.
