Chevrolet Repair: Security Passlock, intermittent fault, professional facility

Question
The wife drives a 1999 Malibu LS . It has performed well up until this past week . Last Monday she started to run an errand and the car would not start. I tried to start the car for her....same result. Starter engaged but motor would not start (as if fuel deprived). We noticed (for the first time ever) there was a "THEFT SYSTEM" light showing on the instrument panel. Refering to the Owners MAnual we find reference to a Passlock "security" feature (we did not knowingly opt for any such thing).  After waiting aan hour or so we tried again and got the car started. Yesterday the same thing occured only this time it wasn't in the driveway it was in a remote mall parking lot. Book states this is a "security" feature that kicks in when the ignition lock is tampered with or the improper key is used. This is not the case here, the car was in our garage the first night and the original key was used each time. This IS NOT a security feature it is a definite security risk on a late night remote parking lot.  My question .....can this danger be by passed or are my only options to get rid of this nightmare or pay $300 or $400 dollars to reinstall another complete "security" system and  never trust this "threat to security" again ?

Answer
IF the vehicle was built with the SECURITY sytem from the manufacturer, Your most likely cause is an intermittent fault within the CHIP embedded into the ignition key. Your local dealer can TEST the ignition key CHIP.

If this is an AFTERMARKET security system, Your going to have to have a professional facility determine the manufacturer and hopefully they can perform the manufacturers recommended tests to determine your problem.
