Chevrolet Repair: 2004 chevy blazer, chevy blazer, gm vehicles

Question
I just purchased an 2004 Blazer. When I start vehicle up and have nothing running ie. heater or radio it sounds like the heater is still blowing.I took it back to the dealer and they said nothing is wrong. They said its the HVAC running. Is this normal

Answer
Hello Rick,
I haven't been in a 2004 or 05 Chevy yet, but for years and years GM vehicles have run the blower motor in low speed whenever the key is on. The vent door is open, and this was intended to exchange the cab air with fresh air continuously.
I have no knowledge of GM changing that practice, so I would say it is more than likely normal.
Now...if yours is making excessive noise, or something like that, then there may be a problem.

The owners manual should tell you that the fan runs, but if not, and you want some proof, have the dealership service manager show you the test steps for the heater/ventilation/air conditioner system(HVAC), and it will say what is normal.

Good luck,
Van
