Chevrolet Repair: hood release, oil pressure switch, air control valve

Question
My hood release button broke. I have been using pliers to open the hood.  Now the little cable that I was using is broken too.  Is it possible to replace the hood release, because now I have no way of opening the hood?

Also once I start the truck (95 chevy) if I stop it, it dies and I can't restart it for a couple of hours.  If I am on a hill and can pop the clutch then it will start.  I had the battery tested it is fine. Any ideas.   Thank you for you time and help

Thanks  Myrna

Answer
Hello Myrna,
Depending on where tha cable inside broke, you might be able to find it under the dash, cut the outside housing off, and pull on the internal cable with pliers.
If it broke way up in there and pulled out, then a trip to a body shop might be worth while.

Sounds like possible the idle air control valve, but could also be maybe the fuel pump relay. Popping the clutch could be building oil pressure, thus operating the fuel pump oil pressure switch, etc. That would mean the engine turns over several times before starting with the clutch??
