Chevrolet Repair: 383, rod selection, flexplate

Question
I wanting to build a 383, I have a 350 block, what machine work needs to be done to the block for it to work, I m having it bored and then aligned then what?, what is the block clearnace thay talk about that needs to be done, and does a 383 take a specail camshaft?

Answer
383= 350 block, 400 crank, special pistons, that needs to be matched to your rod selection(350, 5.7"/400,5.565") If factory 400 crank, mains need to be ground to 350 specs. External balanced harmonic balancer/flexplate or flywheel, and entire assembly balance should be considered. Camshaft chosen for vehicle use, nearly the same considerations as a 350.
