Chevrolet Repair: electrical, 68 chevelle, negative cable

Question
Ever since I put in an HEI distributor in my '68 Chevelle I have had problems with burnt coils, blown ECU's and now the battery negative cable has been burnt through. I have seen grounding problems burn through the positive cable but never the negative cable. What could be causing this problem?

Answer
Hello James,
If the cable gets against the exhaust, it can burn through, weather negative, or positive.
Likewise, either can RUB through, but only the positive will have a problem with that.
But make sure there is a good ground from the battery to the engine, from the battery to the body, and from the engine to the firewall.
The engine moving around under the hood due to worn out motormounts can cause wires, as well as other items to rub and wear.
