Chevrolet Repair: Chevy Truck A/C Blows Hot, chevy c, chevy truck

Question
I have a 95 Chevy c-1500 Truck, just under 200,000 miles. Last summer A/C started going bad. When I first start it in the morning, the A/C blows so cold I have to turn it down. After about 10 minutes, it blows hot. I used to be able to turn it off for a while, then turn it on to blow cold. Now - when the first cold air of the day is gone - it's gone. My freon was checked last summer. My stepfather replaced the cycle switch(?) yesterday. Neither helped. My compressor runs. When my truck is running, I hear what may be the compressor clicking on and off. That clicking happened even before the cooling stopped. Any suggestion for possible do-it-yourself repair would be greatly apreciated. Thanks, Lynda

Answer
Hi Lynda,
A low charge of freon, or a dirty evaporator, in the heater compartment that restricts air flow through the evaporator, will allow it to freeze up, and get covered with ice. Then NO air can get through it.
If it has been used in dusty country for 200,000, I would bet it needs washed out.
The condenser coil in front of the radiator may be bent and plugged with bugs and dirt, and grass seed, which will also keep it from working well, but I bet on the evaporator being dirty.
