Chevrolet Repair: 1994 Buick brake noise, brand new car, buick century

Question
Hi Van,

We have a '94 Buick Century where the brakes work OK. It has ABS.  But there is a grinding crunching noise just before  braking to a complete stop.  The same noise is heard regardless of the car stopping backward or forward. Sounds similar to the noise you get when lightly riding the brake pedal when stopped at a traffic light.
Does this indicate a serious problem?

Regards  from Ben

Answer
Hi Ben,
That noise in itself may not indicate a problem, but considering the brake system is possibly the most important safety system on the vehicle, I think that pulling the wheels and checking the condition of the pads, and all the anchoring devices is a small price to pay to insure the safety of yourself, your family, and others that you may never know.
Grinding, crunching noises should be checked out. I would like it to sound like a brand new car sounds.
Good luck,
Van
